LOCAL HISTORY

Located near Fishguard and the village of Goodwick. Fishguard is set on the North Pembrokeshire Coast of West Wales, overlooking Cardigan Bay. First established as a settlement around 1000AD, Fishguard was probably a Norse trading post and originally surrounded by secure castle walls. Goodwick's name is thought to come from a combination of the old Norse forms: goor (good) and vik (bay or cove) giving goorvik. The welsh name is Wdig.

Henner Cross is located in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park on Strumble Head. Nearby is the site of last invasion of Britain when the French landed at Carreg Wasted Point. The French surrendered 2 days later when confronted by Welsh Ladies from Fishguard marching against them.

PEMBROKESHIRE COAST NATIONAL PARK

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park covers 612 square kilometres from St Dogmaels in the north to Amroth in the south but also includes the Preseli hills and The Daugleddau Estuary.

Strumble Head is also is known as the Pencaer Peninsula. Bordered on two sides by the sea and on the inland side by a line of low hills, it is a beautiful part of Wales. It is also known for its amazing wildlife and fantastic geology. 400 million years ago it was the site of a volcano!

HENNER CROSS COTTAGE

Henner Cross cottage used to be the local shop to the nearby Henner School. The school was opened in 1876. The shop was "open all hours" and in the 1930's was run by local characters Tom & Dick. Locals remember it as a place to get sweets after school but also where you could find out about what was happening in the local area.

Recently it was owned by a locally famous artist renowned for his painting of famous battle ships.

RESTORATION

The restoration started in January 2018. The cottage was dug out of the hillside with new retaining walls and new restored front garden.

New electrics, new heating system, new kitchen and a full re-decoration. There are 3 double bedrooms with the master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom.
